India head coach Gautam Gambhir subtly responds to social media critics after the Suryakumar Yadav-led side won the T20 World Cup 2026, defeating New Zealand in the title decider. Gambhir, who faced a lot of criticism after India's home Test series defeat against New Zealand and South Africa, coached the Men in Blue to two ICC titles in a gap of one year.
Gautam Gambhir on criticism
Gambhir admitted that he is not accountable for the social media posts and criticism; he said that he is only responsible for the 30 people in the dressing room.
"I am not accountable to social media. I am accountable to 30 people in the dressing room" said Gautam Gambhir in post match press conference.
India clinched two World Cups under Gambhir
Notably, this is the first time since 2011 that India has won a World Cup on their home soil. Interestingly, Gambhir played a crucial role for India in that edition of the tournament. Now, after more than a decade, India clinched another World Cup win at home when Gambhir served as head coach. The head coach further stated that this makes it more special for him.
"I was very fortunate to play the 2011 WC at home and win. And here to be the coach in the first World Cup and win. It's about putting the team ahead of yourself. And that is why we achieved it" Gambhir also said.
Gambhir for donning India jersey
Gambhir further warned the players that you have to turn up everyday whether it's a bilateral series, ICC event or any other match. He further stated that the side never takes donning the India jersey for granted.
"You have to turn up everyday. It doesn't matter whether it is bilateral, ICC or any other match. All in the dressing room are privileged to get that chance. We can never take that for granted when you wear this jersey" Gautam Gambhir added.
