Australia captain Mitchell Marsh delivered a power hitting masterclass to lead the Perth Scorchers to a crucial 40-run win over the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-2026. Opening the innings, Marsh, who will be seen leading Australia in the T20 World Cup 2026, blazed his way to a century, scoring 102 runs from just 58 deliveries in a knock highlighted by 11 boundaries and five sixes. His performance set the tone for a dominant batting display that left the Hurricanes' bowlers with few answers.

Marsh found an ideal partner in Aaron Hardie, who played a sensational supporting role with an unbeaten 94 off only 43 balls. Together, the pair dismantled the Hobart attack, finding the boundary at will with a combined 10 sixes. Their explosive partnership propelled the Scorchers to a massive total of 229/3, effectively batting the opposition out of the contest by the end of the 20th over.

Faced with a mountainous chase, the Hobart Hurricanes struggled to maintain the required scoring rate. While Nikhil Chaudhary provided some late-innings blitz with a rapid 31 off 15 balls, the team was ultimately restricted to 189/9. Despite Hobart’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss, their bowlers could not contain the Scorchers, and their batters failed to build the substantial partnerships needed to threaten the target.
Nikhil Chaudhary's 15-ball 31 in Hurricanes' losing cause
The Hurricanes' pursuit faltered early and never truly recovered momentum. The slide began when Mitchell Owen fell for just four runs to Joel Paris, and though Tim Ward showed promise with a brisk 27, he was dismissed by Ashton Agar before he could do real damage. By the halfway mark, Hobart sat at 88/4, having lost wickets at regular intervals, leaving them far behind the pace required to pull off an unlikely comeback.
A brief spark of hope emerged for the Hurricanes when Nikhil Chaudhary and Matthew Wade combined for a quick-fire 56-run partnership. Wade was particularly aggressive, racing to 29 off just 14 balls, but the momentum shifted back to Perth when Cooper Connolly dismissed Chaudhary in the 13th over. The collapse was finalized just an over later when Ashton Agar removed Wade, leaving Hobart reeling at 131/6 and effectively ending their realistic hopes of a comeback.

Ashton Agar spearheaded the bowling attack, claiming 3/38 to finish as the pick of the bowlers. Aaron Hardie complemented his brilliant batting display with a tidy 2/27, while Joel Paris also picked up two wickets. The Scorchers benefited from tight spells by Cooper Connolly and Brody Couch, who both conceded just 23 runs each. Ultimately, Mitchell Marsh was named Player of the Match, as his century served as the cornerstone of Perth's dominant victory.
