Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has restructured the national men’s selection committee following the departure of Aleem Dar, which came after team's elimination from the T20 World Cup 2026. Reportedly, the board has integrated former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed into the decision-making process, aiming to leverage their extensive on-field experience.
Misbah-Ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed join Pakistan's selection committee
The updated panel, as confirmed on the PCB's official website, now consists of four key members. Alongside the newly appointed Misbah and Sarfaraz, the committee includes former fast bowler Aqib Javed and former Test batter Asad Shafiq, creating a veteran-heavy group tasked with shaping the future of the national squad.
Aleem Dar's departure leads to massive revamp
This shake-up was triggered by the resignation of Aleem Dar, the former elite umpire who stepped down after a very short tenure. Appointed only recently on October 11, 2024, Dar’s exit reportedly stems from internal friction and disagreements that occurred during recent selection deliberations.
Reports suggest that the veteran official, who earned multiple ICC Umpire of the Year awards, reached a breaking point due to the internal dynamics of the selection committee. Sources indicate he felt increasingly marginalized during high-level meetings, leading to a sense of frustration as his input was reportedly overlooked in the final decision-making process.

Specific disagreements regarding the roster for T20 World Cup 2026 appear to have fueled his exit. Dar reportedly voiced strong opposition to the selection of Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, and Usman Khan, signaling a clear divide between his vision for the squad and the direction taken by the rest of the management.
In contrast to his stance on those players, Dar was a vocal advocate for Mohammad Rizwan. He argued that if the board was prepared to show patience to other underperforming or inconsistent players, then a talent like Rizwan deserved the same level of loyalty and continued opportunity within the team.
Pakistan's T20 World Cup ouster
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign ended in disappointment, with the squad failing to progress beyond the Super 8s. Their tournament was marred by inconsistency and misfortune, starting with a rain-induced abandonment and followed by a definitive loss to England. Even their lone victory against Sri Lanka offered little comfort, despite posting a formidable total of 212, the team narrowly escaped with a five-run win.
