West Indies outclassed England by 30 runs to notch their second win in a row in T20 World Cup 2026

England failed to chase down the target of 197 and were bundled out for 166

West Indies spin attack effectively stifled England’s powerful batting lineup to register a dominant 30-run win in their T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the Wankhede stadium on February 11. Notably, this was West Indies second win on the trot after downing Nepal in their campaign opener.

West Indies outclass England by 30 runs

Chasing a formidable target of 197, Harry Brook's England were bundled out for 166 in 19 overs. Gudakesh Motie led the charge with a brilliant spell of 3/33, while Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein provided critical support, consistently keeping the English batters under pressure and preventing them from finding any rhythm.

England's chase lacked the big individual score necessary to threaten the total. While Jacob Bethell, Phil Salt, and Jos Buttler all made starts, none could convert their efforts into a match-winning performance. Sam Curran provided a late spark of hope with a resilient, unbeaten 43 off 30 balls, featuring three boundaries and two sixes, but he ultimately ran out of partners as the West Indies tightened their grip on the contest.

Sherfane Rutherford's heroics in West Indies' win

Earlier in the evening, the West Indies innings got off to a disastrous start, losing both openers for just eight runs. A 47-run recovery partnership between Roston Chase and Shimron Hetmyer helped stabilise the ship, but their quick departures left the side in a precarious position at 77/4. However, the momentum shifted dramatically thanks to Sherfane Rutherford, who produced a career-defining unbeaten 76 from 42 deliveries, headlined by seven towering sixes. He was ably supported by former captain Jason Holder, whose explosive 33 off 17 balls helped propel the team to a massive 196/6.

Despite disciplined bowling from Adil Rashid and Jamie Overton, who claimed two wickets apiece, England's bowlers could not contain the late-innings onslaught. With this result, the West Indies move to the top of Group C with four points from two matches, while England faces a tougher road ahead, sitting on just two points after two games.

West Indies will next face Nepal on February 15 while England will take on Scotland on February 14.
