Earlier this month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah also met FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Milan, marking a rare crossover between two of the world’s biggest sports. Infantino later shared a photo of the meeting on Instagram, praising Shah for his efforts to grow cricket globally.

“It was my pleasure to meet ICC Chairman Jay Shah today in Milan. The work he has done to develop the game of cricket is outstanding,” Infantino wrote. He also wished Shah well as cricket prepares to return to the Olympic Games at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and expressed interest in working together to promote sport worldwide.

Cricket back in the Olympics after 128 years

Cricket’s return to the Olympics is viewed as a significant milestone for the game’s global expansion. The sport will feature at the Summer Games for only the second time in history, 128 years after its first and only appearance at the 1900 Paris Olympics, where Great Britain won gold in a one-off match against France.
