For Hardik Pandya, India's T20 World Cup 2026 title triumph was more than just a professional achievement, it was the realisation of a personal vow. The star all-rounder revealed that winning T20 World Cup 2026 title allowed him to fulfill a promise he had made to himself back in 2024. This sense of personal mission appeared to fuel his performances throughout the tournament, as he played a vital role in ensuring the silverware returned to India once again.

Pandya’s contributions on the field were a testament to his versatility and impact as a premier all-rounder. He played several crucial roles for the Men in Blue, recording two half-centuries at pivotal moments while also providing essential breakthroughs with the ball, finishing the campaign with nine wickets. His ability to deliver with both bat and ball proved indispensable to India’s undefeated run, making him a cornerstone of the team’s historic title defense.
"After the win in Barbados (in 2024 final against South Africa), I promised myself that whichever tournament I play, I will play to win and I will lift the trophy. This win against New Zealand in Ahmedabad is a validation that the promise I made to myself has become a reality. And this is just the start," Pandya told Star Sports.
Pandya also took the time to reflect on the significant hurdles he faced leading up to India's monumental victory in 2024. During that period, the all-rounder had to navigate a demanding path back to peak fitness and form, dealing with the physical and mental pressures that often accompany high-stakes international cricket.
When we won the T20 WC 2024, I was facing a lot of difficulties: Hardik Pandya
By revisiting those earlier struggles, he highlighted the resilience required to maintain a high level of performance over consecutive successful campaigns. For Pandya, the journey toward the 2026 title was deeply intertwined with the lessons learned and the grit displayed during that previous championship run, making this latest triumph feel like the completion of a long and challenging chapter.
"When we won the T20 World Cup in 2024, I was facing a lot of difficulties personally. Many things had happened before that tournament and things were not going my way. Before the 2024 World Cup started, I had made up my mind that I was going for redemption. I wanted to make a dominating comeback. I did that and helped my team win the trophy after 17 years," he added.
The star all-rounder maintained an exceptional level of consistency across both facets of the game during the previous edition of the tournament. He proved to be a vital asset for the bowling unit, claiming 11 wickets while maintaining a disciplined economy rate of 7.64. This ability to provide crucial breakthroughs while keeping the scoring in check made him a reliable option for the captain throughout the campaign. His impact was equally significant with the bat, where he provided stability and power to the middle order. Pandya accumulated 144 runs at an impressive average of 48.00.
"Coming to this T20 World Cup victory in Ahmedabad, this is something I have always lived for. I play cricket to do well for my country and win trophies. I want to win all the trophies for India," he concluded.
