India speedster Arshdeep Singh was involved in a heated moment with Daryl Mitchell during the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The incident happened on the last ball of the 11th over. Mitchell had just played a wide yorker outside off stump and squeezed the ball back towards the pitch. Arshdeep quickly picked up the ball and threw it towards the stumps, but the throw ended up hitting Mitchell on the thigh.
The New Zealand batter was clearly unhappy with the throw and reacted immediately. Mitchell turned towards Arshdeep and walked in his direction, making animated gestures with his hands while expressing his frustration.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav stepped in to calm things down. He spoke to Mitchell and tried to ease the tension by placing an arm around his shoulder. At the same time, the umpire also had a brief word with Arshdeep about the throw. Arshdeep later apologised and the incident went viral on social media. Here is the video.
Coming back to the T20 World Cup 2026 final, while chasing 256, New Zealand slipped to 88 for five as the visitors lost all their top batters by the time the innings entered the halfway stage. Opener Tim Seifert smashed 52 off 26 balls, but the rest of the top-order disappointed in the stiff chase.
Axar Patel dismissed the dangerous Finn Allen (9) and Glenn Phillips (5) while Jasprit Bumrah removed Rachin Ravindra (1) in the powerplay. Then, Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakravarthy picked up a wicket each.
