Former India cricketer WV Raman advised Yashasvi Jaiswal to be patient and wait for his time after he was snubbed from the squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Jaiswal, who is yet to make a T20I appearance for the Men in Blue since July 2024, has once again been omitted from the squad this time from a major tournament.
Despite Jaiswal being tipped to become one of India's next all-format players by many, he has struggled to get chances especially when it comes to T20Is. Though he hasn't done much wrong and even scored a fine hundred for Mumbai recently in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), the 23-year-old was yet again snubbed from the national team.

Raman feels that despite a lack of opportunities, Jaiswal has the potential to achieve success in the shortest format and backed him to deliver whenever he gets opportunities in the future.
“Certain conversations can’t be revealed in public, but now the World T20 squad has been selected, and one can’t do anything. Jaiswal will have to bide his time, but I am confident that the kind of talent he is, he will play many more World Cups," Raman said.
Jaiswal's numbers in T20Is
Meanwhile, Jaiswal does have promising numbers in T20Is and has given stellar performances on multiple occasions in the format. He has so far featured in 23 T20Is for India, scoring a total of 723 runs at a strike-rate of 164.31. He also has a century and five half-centuries under his name in the shortest format. It remains to be seen as to if he will finally be called back to the T20I set-up in the coming future.
Gill dropped after disappointing display
On the other hand, the selection committee made some tough calls while selecting India's squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. They decided to drop Shubman Gill for the tournament after a string of low scores in the format and opted to call-up Ishan Kishan after he played a major role in taking Jharkhand to their first-ever SMAT title.
