Former Australia cricketer and legendary batter, Matthew Hayden threw immense shade at England fast bowler Ollie Robinson and urged Aussie batters to take the attack to the English paceman in the remaining Ashes Tests. Speaking at SENQ Breakfast, the cricketer-turned-commentator refrained from even taking Robinson's name and called him a 'forgettable cricketer'. Hayden highlighted Robinson's lack of pace that can be used by Aussie batters to their advantage while the ex-Australian batter also pointed out the English pacer's tendency to trash talk.
"That’s how you combat England as well. As soon as Pat Cummins started coming at Joe Root and hit a couple of sixes,” he added," SEN quoted Hayden.
"Then the other bloke (Ollie Robinson), he’s a forgettable cricketer. A fast bowler that is bowling 124 (kph) nude nuts and he’s got a mouth from the south.
"Someone like him, you can just go, ‘Brother, I’m coming at ya’. Davey Warner can do that, right. He can just say, ‘You’re bowling 120km…’,” Hayden added.
Robinson was brutally criticised by a certain section of Australian fans for giving Usman Khawaja an abusive send-off on Day 3 of the recently-concluded Edgbaston Test. The right-arm pacer delivered a brilliant yorker and uprooted Khawaja's stump that ultimately helped the Three Lions to close out Australia's innings before lunch on Day 3. Upon picking Khawaja's wicket, an animated Robinson told Khawaja to, "F*** off, you f***ing prick."
Meanwhile, in a game that ebbed and flowed throughout the course of five days, Australia ended up neutralising 'Bazball' at Edgbaston. On a thrilling Day 5 that was packed with pulsating action, the Three Lions were in ascendancy to steal a close win before the Baggy Greens' skipper Pat Cummins batted out of his skin to take his team to the promised land. England captain Ben Stokes did all in his power to earn a positive result but it just wasn't to be for England.
The second Ashes Test between England and Australia is scheduled to begin on June 28 at the iconic Lord's Stadium.
