Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh extended his warm wishes to Stuart Broad on his retirement from Test cricket, which broke the internet on Saturday, July 29. The English fast bowler made his retirement announcement after the third day of the final Ashes Test match and signalled the culmination of a splendid career for the 37-year-old speedster.
Yuvraj, who famously smashed Broad for six sixes in a single over during the T20 World Cup in 2007, penned an affectionate message on Twitter in tribute to the legendary English bowler.
"A hearty salute to you, Stuart Broad. Well done on an extraordinary Test career, truly one of the most formidable red ball bowlers, and a true legend! Your journey and determination have been incredibly inspiring. Best of luck for the next chapter, Broady!" Yuvraj posted on Twitter.
Broad's career boasts a plethora of remarkable achievements. He is the sole English cricketer with two Test hat-tricks under his belt and has claimed over 600 wickets in Test cricket. In the 2023 Ashes series against Australia, he joined the select club of bowlers to have bagged 600 Test wickets, becoming only the second fast bowler and the second for England to reach this impressive milestone after James Anderson.
When asked about the infamous six sixes incident during the post-Day 3 press conference, Broad admitted that Yuvraj Singh's onslaught had a significant impact on shaping him as a cricketer.
"Of course, it was a challenging day. I was just 22 at that time. I learned a lot. I developed my entire mental routine from that experience, realizing that I was ill-prepared as an international cricketer at that moment. My preparation had been rushed. I lacked a pre-ball routine. I didn't have a particular focus, so I started building my 'warrior mode', as I call it, after that experience," Broad confessed in the press conference.
In the final Test match at The Oval, England has set a target of 384 runs.
