Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is set to miss the remainder of the Vijay Hazare Trophy according to his childhood coach Manish Ojha. The left-hand batter had played a monumental knock of 190 runs for Bihar in their opening game of the domestic tournament against Arunachal Pradesh. He played a key role in Bihar posting the highest List A total in history at 574/6 as they began their campaign on a high.
Suryavanshi absent in round 2
However, Suryavanshi was surprisingly not included in Bihar's playing XI for the second round against Manipur. This was due to the fact that he has to attend the Prime Minister's National Children's Award ceremony in Delhi where he will be recognized for his achievements. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the ceremony and meet the awardees.
But, according to Suryavanshi's childhood coach, the 14-year-old will not be available for the remainder of Vijay Hazare Trophy as he has to link-up with the India U-19 team and travel to Zimbabwe as they prepare for the U-19 World Cup that will commence from January 15.
“Vaibhav won't play today's match because he is in Delhi to attend the Prime Minister's National Children's Award ceremony. He will be honoured at the ceremony. He had to report at 7 AM for the ceremony,” Ojha told Hindustan Times.
“He will miss the remainder of the Vijay Hazare Trophy because he has to get in sync for the U19 World Cup and hence will link up with the rest of the Indian team for preparatory matches,” he added.
Big setback for Bihar
This will prove to be a major blow for Bihar as Suryavanshi is one of if not their most important player. Without him, their batting order will be significantly weakened and they may fail to make it to the latter stages of the competition. It remains to be seen as to how will they fare in the competition without Suryavanshi.
Meanwhile, the Bihar batter has been in great form when it comes to the international circuit as well. He had played a sensational inning of 171 for the India U-19 side in the U-19 Asia Cup against UAE. However, he wasn't able to fire in the remaining matches as the Men in Blue eventually went on to lose to Pakistan in the final. Though Suryavanshi has undoubtedly been very impressive, he still bhas a long way to go before he gets that maiden call-up to the senior Indian team.
