The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reprimanded West Indies pacer Jayden Seales for breaching the code of conduct on Day 1 of the second Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Seales has been slapped with a 25 per cent match fee fine for breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The Article 2.9 relates to throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
When was Seales’ previous offence?
This is Seales' second offence within a year. The one demerit point takes his tally to two for the 24-month period. His previous offence was in December 2024 during a Test against Bangladesh. If a player gets four demerit point within a period of two years, he will face a ban f one Test or two white-ball matches.
Why a formal hearing for Seales was required?
A formal hearing was required as Seales contested the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Alex Wharf and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan.

The incident took place in the 29th over of India's first innings. Seales picked up the ball on his follow-through and threw it Jaiswal's way. The ball struck him on the pads. He even appealed for a run out as he felt that Jaiswal was obstructing the field. However, after reviewing it from different angles, it was ascertained by Pycroft that there was no need for a throw as he was well inside the crease.
Seales remains wicketless
Seales bowled a total of 22 overs, including two maidens. He conceded 88 runs and remained wicketless as India piled on 518/5 in the first innings before declaring.
With the bat, Seales shared a 27-run partnership for the 10th wicket. He scored 13 runs from 25 balls, including three fours. He became wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav's fifth wicket of the innings.
