Devajit Saikia revealed the date when India's squad for West Indies Tests will be announced

India's two-match Test series against West Indies will begin from October 2

Following the conclusion of Asia Cup 2025, Team India is set to host West Indies in a two-match Test series that will commence from October 2. The visitors have already announced their squad for the assignment while the Men in Blue are yet to do so. Now, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has himself confirmed that India's squad for the Test series will be announced in the next 2- 3 days.

“The selection for the Indian Test team for the upcoming Test series against West Indies will be done on Sept 23 or 24… selection meeting will be online," Saikia told reporters at the BCCI headquarters on Sunday.

The first Test of the series will be played at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad and then the action will move to the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi for the second and final match of the assignment. This series will be the Men in Blue's first red-ball assignment since their 2-2 draw against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. It will also be Shubman Gill's first home series as the captain.

West Indies' poor performance against Australia

On the other hand, West Indies had suffered a series whitewash to Australia in their previous Test assignment. The Roston Chase-led side lost all three of their Tests against the Baggy Greens to begin the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle on a highly negative note.

However, despite the setback, West Indies coach Darren Sammy expressed confidence in the side's fast bowlers and tipped them to deliver against India in the upcoming series. Notably, the Windies have selected a pace attack of Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, Anderson Phillip and Jayden Seales for the India tour. They will also be having the services of fast-bowling all-rounder Justin Greaves.

"We have found ourselves in a position where our seam attack could operate in any conditions. That six-to-eight-metre length works across the world. But in our fast-bowling department, we've got four different guys who have their own variety," Sammy said in a press conference.

"You have Shamar Joseph, who's very skiddy, Jayden, who has a strong front leg and can swing the ball both ways, then you have Alzarri Joseph with his height and the bounce he could extract. So, again, we take confidence in that, especially the way they've been bowling over the last year. The ability to take 20 wickets, because that's what you will need in India. If you can't take 20 wickets in India, you are on the back foot and we have a bowling line-up of that, especially from the seam department, that could take 20 wickets," he added.

India and West Indies on WTC standings

Meanwhile, India currently sit third on the WTC points table with a PCT of 46.67 while on the other hand, West Indies stand on the sixth place and are yet to register their first win in the new cycle. It remains to be seen how the standings will look like once the upcoming series between the two sides concludes.
