Legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar left Ian Bishop stunned with his dig on West Indies bowlers during the first day of the second Test. Gavaskar was left confused seeing the West Indian bowlers not bowling any bouncers towards Indian batters even after taking the new ball and asked Bishop the reason behind this.
"It's been six overs with the new ball and not a single bouncer from the West Indies pacers. What is happening, Ian? What happened to the West Indies pace attack?" Gavaskar asked Bishop on air.
Bishop couldn't think of a reply
Gavaskar's sudden remark took Bishop by surprise and could't think of an answer on the spot. Seeing this, commentator Harsha Bhogle intervened and stated, "He's in the commentary box, it's a bit tough to bowl a bounce from here." However, Bishop didn't stay silent for too long and simply said, "I'm sure we will see one from the likes of Seales."
However, the pace duo of Jayden Seales and Anderson Phillip didn't go on to bowl a single short-pitched delivery throughout the first session as Indian batters started to dominate from the opening day itself. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi, the duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul formed a strong 58-run stand for India.
Jaiswal and Sudharsan decimate opposing bowlers
Though West Indies managed to get the wicket of Rahul thanks to Jomel Warrican for 36 runs, Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan piled on runs and ended up forming a huge partnership for the second wicket. Both of them smacked a big number of boundaries and soon went on to reach milestones. While Sudharsan only recorded his second Test fifty, Jaiswal slammed his seventh hundred in the longest format, taking India's total over the 200-run for the loss of just a wicket.
Sudharsan was looking set to bring up his maiden Test century, but eventually failed to do so and got dismissed by Warrican for 87 runs. This wicket saw the 193-run partnership between him and Jaiswal come to an end, leaving the hosts on 251/3. It is now upto Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill to take the Men in Blue's innings forward.
