Virat Kohli has not been able to score a century in international cricket for a long while now. Despite the century drought, Kohli had been contributing well in the ODI format with a half-century in every other game. However, things changed in the ODI series against West Indies as he managed to score just 26 runs in three games. This is the second-lowest number of runs Kohli has scored in a bilateral ODI series with three or more games.
The lowest tally of runs off Kohli's bat in a bilateral ODI series came against Pakistan in 2012/13 series. He scored just 13 runs from three innings. He had a bad patch in 2013/14 series in South Africa conditions as well, where he scored 31 runs from two innings. The last time he scored less than 50 runs in an ODI series was in Bangladesh in 2015.
The 33-year-old got out for a two-ball duck in the third ODI. It was an unlucky dismissal for the former skipper against Alzarri Joseph as he edged one to the wicketkeeper Shai Hope while playing down the leg side. It was Kohli’s 15th duck in ODI cricket. In home conditions, it was his eighth duck. The Delhi-born batter joined former Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina on the list with joint-most ducks on home soil.
This is also his second duck in five ODIs. The last time he got out for a duck was against South Africa when he lost his wicket to Keshav Maharaj playing a loose shot. He scored two half-centuries against the Proteas too but managed scores of 8 and 18 in the first two ODIs against West Indies. This was also his first ODI series under the leadership of permanent limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma.
The last time Kohli played against West Indies in an ODI series, he scored 89 runs from three innings including an 85-run knock in December 2019. Before that, he scored two centuries on West Indies tour. While his last international century came against Bangladesh in the pink-ball Test in November 2019, his last ODI century was against West Indies in August 2019.
