The dates and venues for the upcoming season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) have been revealed. As per Sports Tak, the tournament will begin from January 8 or 9 with Mumbai and Baroda One of the venues that will host games is the D.Y. Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai where the Indian women's team recently defeated South Africa in the final of the ODI World Cup and lifted the coveted trophy for the first time ever.
Meanwhile, the Kotambi stadium in Baroda will most likely be the other venue that will be hosting games. It will also be hosting the first ODI of the series between India and New Zealand that will be played on January 11.
WPL to be played in 2 legs?
According to an earlier report by Cricbuzz, the WPL will be played in two legs with the first one set to be played in Navi Mimbai while the second one will be played in Baroda. The five teams are expected to receive official notification regarding the venues for WPL 2026 during the player auction, which is scheduled for November 27 in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, a total of 276 players are set to go under the hammer during the mega auction while there are 73 available slots among the five teams. All eyes will be on the marquee players that will appear in the auction. The likes of Deepti Sharma, Alyssa Healy, Meg Lanning, Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine and Sophie Ecclestone are the players with the highest base price in the auction at INR 50 lakh each.
UP Warriorz got the highest remaining purse
Meanwhile, when it comes to the remaining purses, UP Warriorz are the team with the most at INR 14.50 crore as they only retained a single player ahead of the auction. On the other hand, both Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the teams with the least remaining purses at INR 5.75 crore each.
This will be the fourth edition of the WPL. While Mumbai Indians came out victorious in the first and third season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru came out on top in the second season.
