Alyssa Healy failed to get any bid in the WPL 2026 auction, hence went unsold

Notably, Alyssa Healy was the first name in the marquee list

Six-time World Cup-winner Alyssa Healy failed to attract any bidder in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 being held in New Delhi on November 27. The WPL 2026 auction began with a stunning surprise as Australia captain Alyssa Healy, the very first name on the marquee list, found no takers.

Despite entering the auction with a base price of Rs 50 lakh, the 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batter went unsold. Healy, who had previously captained the UP Warriorz before being released, was widely expected to hit a jackpot. While the initial lack of interest was a shock to observers, it is still considered highly probable that she will be secured by a franchise during the accelerated auction phase later in the proceedings.

Healy’s initial exclusion is particularly notable given her significant history in the league. She led the UP Warriorz during the first two seasons, accumulating 428 runs across 17 matches with a strike rate of 130.49. Her standout performance—an unbeaten 96 off 61 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the inaugural season—remains the joint second-highest individual score in the tournament's history. However, her momentum was interrupted when she missed the entire 2025 edition due to a recurring foot injury that had flared up during the T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Despite the setback at the auction table, Healy remains a titan of the international game. She has been a cornerstone of Australia’s golden era, contributing to six T20 World Cup title triumph and two ODI World Cup glory. Most recently, she led Australia to the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 semifinal, where they were eventually defeated by the tournament champions, India.
