Gujarat Giants have drafted in Jintimani Kalita has Titas Sadhu's replacement

Gujarat Giants (GG) have confirmed that pacer Titas Sadhu has been ruled out for the remainder of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season due to injury. To fill the vacancy, the franchise has signed seam-bowling all-rounder Jintimani Kalita as Sadhu's replacement. Sadhu had joined the Giants for INR 30 lakh during the November mega auction but unfortunately finishes the season without making an appearance for the side.

This injury marks a challenging continuation of a fitness-marred period for Sadhu. After playing against Ireland in early 2025 and featuring in three WPL matches, her year was repeatedly interrupted. She was forced to miss a tri-series in Sri Lanka in April and the subsequent white-ball tour of England in July. While she successfully returned to competitive action in August for the India A tour of Australia, her ongoing struggles have now hampered her 2026 WPL campaign.

Despite these recent setbacks, Sadhu remains a highly-regarded talent within the national setup. With eight ODIs and 12 T20Is under her belt for India, her absence is a significant blow to the Giants' bowling depth. The team will now look to Kalita to provide the necessary balance as they progress through the tournament.

Kalita joins Gujarat Giants bringing previous tournament experience from her time with Mumbai Indians. Spanning the 2023 and 2025 seasons, Kalita made 13 appearances where she contributed both with the ball and the bat. While her statistical record includes one wicket and six runs, her familiarity with the high-pressure environment of the WPL will be an asset for her new franchise.

Giants are currently facing a critical juncture in their 2026 campaign. Despite being tied on points with four other teams, they have slipped to the bottom of the table due to an inferior net run-rate. The team’s momentum has shifted significantly; after a strong start with two consecutive victories, they have since endured a difficult stretch of three straight defeats.

With only three league matches remaining, the Giants find themselves in a high-stakes race for the playoffs. The inclusion of Kalita is intended to revitalize the squad as they look to snap their losing streak and secure enough points to climb the standings before the knockout stages begin.
