After Bangladesh defeated Pakistan for the first time on Bangladeshi soil in the opening Test of the two-match series, the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table witnessed a major shake-up.
The historic result significantly boosted Bangladesh’s position in the standings, while Pakistan slipped down after suffering a disappointing defeat at home. Meanwhile, Australia national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team continued to occupy the top two spots respectively.
Bangladesh rise in standings after historic Test victory
Bangladesh scripted history by defeating Pakistan by 104 runs and registering their maiden Test win against the Men in Green on Pakistani soil.
Chasing 267 runs in the fourth innings, Pakistan’s batting lineup failed to handle the pressure as the hosts were bowled out for just 163.
The victory brought a major improvement in Bangladesh’s WTC campaign. Before the Test, Bangladesh were placed eighth in the standings, but the win lifted them to sixth place with 16 points.
Their Percentage of Points (PCT) also witnessed a massive jump from 16.67 to 44.44 following the historic triumph.
Pakistan, meanwhile, suffered a major setback in the table. The defeat pushed them down from fifth place to seventh with 12 points, while their PCT dropped sharply from 50 to 33.33.

Najmul Shanto and Mominul Haque star in Bangladesh’s win
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto played a leading role in the memorable victory with a superb century in the first innings.
Shanto scored 101 runs to guide Bangladesh to a strong total of 413, while Mominul Haque made crucial contributions of 91 and 56 across the two innings.
Mominul also achieved a personal milestone during the match, becoming only the third Bangladesh batter to complete 5,000 Test runs.
For Pakistan, debutant Azan Awais impressed with a composed century, scoring 103 in the first innings. Veteran pacer Mohammad Abbas also claimed a five-wicket haul, but Bangladesh dominated the key moments of the contest.
With the win, Bangladesh now hold a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
