Real Madrid's triumph in their 2023-24 La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao was overshadowed by the devastating news concerning their stalwart defender, Eder Militao. The Brazilian center-back's promising start to the season has been halted, following an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The club issued an official statement confirming the unsettling news. It read: "After the tests carried out on our player Eder Militao, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days."

Having transitioned from FC Porto to Real Madrid in 2019, the 25-year-old defender swiftly ascended as a cornerstone in the team's backline. In the wake of significant departures, including Raphael Varane's move to Manchester United and Sergio Ramos' switch to PSG, Militao emerged as the mainstay, garnering accolades from both aficionados and pundits alike.

Yet, amidst this gloomy revelation, the Santiago Bernabeu bore witness to an electrifying display of football. Spearheading the Blancos' triumphant outing were the dynamic duo of Rodrygo and the prodigious Jude Bellingham, who together orchestrated a stellar 2-0 victory over Bilbao.

Real Madrid's young sensation, Bellingham, crowned as the player of the match, was nothing short of exemplary. His tenacious plays and deft maneuvers left the Bilbao defense scrambling, highlighting the void left by the iconic Karim Benzema. Augmenting the front line, Bellingham, alongside Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr, manifested an intriguing chemistry in the new-look 4-4-2 formation, evoking wonder amongst spectators.

The crowd erupted in the 28th minute as Bilbao's defensive line faltered. In a swift turn of events, Rodrygo seized upon a clearance error, cleverly navigating the ball beyond the reach of Bilbao's goalkeeper, Unai Simon.

Further stamping their authority, Bellingham executed an artful volley, magnificently connecting with David Alaba's corner. The ball, describing a perfect arc, eluded Simon and found its home in the net's top right corner.

In the midst of Militao's unforeseen setback, Real Madrid's dynamic duo has ignited optimism, showcasing their potential to carry the team's aspirations in La Liga.
