Liverpool suffered a massive 4-0 loss against Manchester City in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup. After the game, the Reds' boss, Arne Slot, opened up on one of the key moments of the game, where star winger Mohamed Salah missed a penalty in the 65th minute of the game at the Etihad Stadium.
Mohamed Salah's key penalty miss vs Liverpool
While interacting with the media after the game, Slot addressed issues in Liverpool's attack as he admitted that chances missed by the Egyptian forward were one of the key reasons behind the loss, but he could not be solely blamed for the setback.
Arne Slot admitted that missing big chances by the players cost them a tough season, where the Reds could not win a single title.
"I wouldn't focus on one player, I would focus on the team and that probably sums up us today but also maybe large parts of the season. I think it is the second one he missed and Dominik Szoboszlai also already missed a penalty so it's not only that we miss big chances, this season we have missed a few penalties, said Slot.
"In the first half there was a chance for Mo when we played the fast counter attack. Unfortunately, that didn't go in and you have to score goals if you want to have a chance to win the game," added Slot.
Mohamed Salah's underwhelming 2025-26 season
In the ongoing season, Mohamed Salah failed to create his impact which led to Liverpool's poor outings. The Reds forward managed to amass only five goals and six assists in 22 Premier League games. In the UEFA Champions League, the Egyptian scored three goals and two assists.
