Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has provided a significant update on the fitness of three key players — Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong, and Alisson Becker — ahead of the Reds’ much-anticipated Premier League encounter against Chelsea. The Dutch manager addressed the media on Monday, shedding light on the injury concerns that continue to challenge his squad as they prepare for another crucial week of fixtures.
Injury setbacks for Liverpool ahead of Chelsea clash
After regaining momentum with a vital league win over Brentford, Liverpool now turn their attention to a challenging meeting with Chelsea at Anfield. However, Slot’s latest update confirmed that his side will once again be without some of their most influential players.
Isak, who joined Liverpool earlier this season, has endured a difficult start to life on Merseyside. The Swedish forward has managed just one goal in eight appearances and is now sidelined with an adductor issue. His recovery has been slower than expected, leaving Liverpool short of attacking options ahead of their top-flight showdown.
“All three are not available tomorrow. Jeremie and Alisson will both not be available for Sunday [at Manchester City]. With Alex, we have to wait and see. He definitely is not starting on Sunday, but maybe he can be in the squad. But he is still not training with the team so we have to wait and see,” Arne Slot confirmed.
Alisson and Frimpong also ruled out
The Brazilian shot-stopper Alisson Becker and full-back Jeremie Frimpong are also ruled out of the midweek clash, with neither expected to feature against Manchester City later in the week either. Their absence adds to Liverpool’s growing list of injuries, a concern that could test the team’s depth as the season intensifies.
Alisson’s leadership and shot-stopping ability have been pivotal to Liverpool’s defensive stability, while Frimpong’s pace and attacking drive down the flanks have become crucial elements of Slot’s tactical setup. Losing both players simultaneously will undoubtedly force the manager to reshuffle his backline ahead of two high-stakes fixtures.
Arne Slot keeping focus on immediate challenges
Despite the mounting injury concerns and a congested schedule, Slot remained composed about the challenges ahead. Liverpool face Chelsea before heading to the Etihad to take on Manchester City, a fixture list that would test even the most seasoned squads.
“Sunday's game not in my thinking for the lineup, a few days in between where we have a lot of moments where there are only two days in between like tomorrow. But for our opponent this season, this is the first time is the same for both teams. So the lineup tomorrow won't have anything to do with Sunday,” Arne Slot explained.
The manager emphasized his intent to take each game as it comes, refusing to let future challenges distract from the immediate task of securing a win against Chelsea.
