Liverpool coach Arne Slot has dropped an update on Alexander Isak following the forward limping off in their game against Tottenham Hotspur. The Reds claimed a 2-1 away win against the North London club on Saturday, December 20.
Big problem for Liverpool
Goals from Isak (56') and Hugo Ekitike (66') helped the defending champions register consecutive league victories for the first time since September. However, the win came at a cost as the Reds saw their players leave the game with injuries.
Alexander Isak and Conor Bradley picks up injury
British record signing Isak was forced off in the 60th minute after giving his team the lead. The former Newcastle clattered into Spurs defender Micky Van de Veen while trying to score, and suffered an apparent injury on his left leg. Isak had come on at halftime to replace Conor Bradley who was taken off at the break after getting treatment in the first period.
Concerns for Jeremie Frimpong
Meanwhile, right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who replaced Isak, was also substituted in the 90th minute after picking up a knock. While interacting with the reporters following the game, Slot was questioned about the injuries his side picked up in the clash.
Arne Slot drops injury update on three Liverpool players
The Dutch coach revealed that Frimpong's substitution was a precautionary decision, and he is unsure about the seriousness of Isak and Bradley's injuries. He said, as quoted by GOAL:
"It is too short after the game to speak about it but it is never good when a player has to come off. I took Frimpong off because I did not want to be with 10 men, so that injury is fine."
"The other two (Isak and Conor Bradley) we'll have to wait and see. The good thing is that we have a week to go so hopefully we have enough players available to play next week again," Slot added.
Liverpool will be hoping that Isak's injury is not too serious, as they have got a busy schedule with three league games scheduled in 12 days. The Reds are already missing Mohamed Salah as he is representing Egypt in AFCON.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot on his team's performance vs Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool coach Arne Slot was happy with his team's performance against Tottenham. He said that they controlled the tempo of the game and there were lots of positives to take from the game.
"Overall, we had good control over the game. Six games unbeaten, four wins and two draws. We are definitely not perfect yet but both of our number nines scored. Again, positives to take from the game," Slot said (via BBC).
Following a terrible run of form between September and November, the Reds have managed to remain unbeaten in six straight games across competition. The victory against Spurs took them to fifth in the league table with 29 points in hand from 17 games.
They will next face Wolves at home on Saturday, December 27.
