Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez has finally broken his silence on his transfer rumours to FC Barcelona ahead of the important clash vs Arsenal in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Atletico star has downplayed persistent rumours linking him with a summer move to Barcelona. Alvarez stated that he is focused solely on his current club as they prepare for a high-stakes Champions League semi-final against Arsenal.

The Argentine said he avoids giving too much importance to weekly media speculation. In a recent media interaction, Alvarez said:

“I try not to give too much importance to what they say, because the truth is that every week new things come out, all kinds of new information”.

The player added:

“I try not to waste energy on that and to focus on what we’re doing here at Atléti”.

The remarks come as Barcelona has identified the former Manchester City striker as its primary target to refresh the attack for the 2026-27 season, with Robert Lewandowski’s future uncertain. Multiple reports indicate the Catalan club views Álvarez as an ideal long-term No. 9, though any deal would face significant hurdles.

Atlético signed Álvarez for a club-record fee from the Sky Blues and remains reluctant to sell, with the player contracted until 2030 and reportedly protected by a hefty release clause. Meanwhile, the La Liga side is all set to face the Gunners in the semifinals of the UCL.
