With the 2026 FIFA World Cup being around the corner, every national team will seek to regroup one more time before the most prestigious tournament starts. Amid this crucial time, Cristiano Ronaldo, faces uncertainty about his participation in Portugal's double-header friendlies against Mexico and USA.
The Al-Nassr skipper, was forced to leave the pitch after sustaining an injury in the 81st minute of the game against Al-Fayha on Saturday, February 28.
What happened to Cristiano Ronaldo?
However, Al-Nassr managed to win the game 3-1, without requiring any major contribution from their legendary skipper. Later, Al-Nassr dropped a big update on 5-time European Golden Boot winner's status, revealing he has picked up a hamstring injury.
The club also revealed that the legendary striker has already joined a recovery programme to get fit in time and he will be monitored on a daily basis.
"Cristiano Ronaldo has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury after the last game against Al-Fayha. He started a rehabilitation program and will be under evaluation day by day," said Al-Nassr.
Crucial time for Portugal
It's not a surprise that this is a very crucial stage for Ronaldo to get injured. Portugal will need him for the Friendlies against Mexico and USA to get a better understanding of a core group, which will help them in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Portugal will lock horns with Mexico and USA on March 28 and March 31 respectively. The absence of a player like Ronaldo would be a big blow for the 2016 Euro winners.
