Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, who have employed footballing superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, have been banned from registering new players to their squad by FIFA after they failed to complete payments for a transfer back in 2018.
The Saudi Pro League side signed striker Ahmed Musa from recently-relegated Premier League side Leicester City for a deal worth 16.50 million euros, including add-ons. However, the team, after winning the league in 2020, failed to pay Leicester performance-related add-ons from the deal and then released the player in 2020.
The Blue and Yellow were given a warning in 2021, but reports now being circulated in the media suggest that the nine-time Saudi Pro League champions have now been suspended from registering any new players for three transfer windows. Al Nassr will have to complete the remaining payments in order to get the ban lifted.
The club made headlines in January 2023 when they confirmed the acquisition of Portuguese star Ronaldo on a bumper 173 million pound deal that brought the five-time Ballon d’Or winner into their team. Since then, the league has come to the forefront, having signed some of the biggest names in World football in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Some of the big names to join different teams in the Pro League are Frenchmen Karim Benzema and N’golo Kante, who are joining defending champions Al Ittihad, as well as Roberto Firmino, who joined Al Ahli.
Al-Nassr were also set to sign some big names, including the likes of Marcelo Brozovic from Inter, who recently played the Champions League final against Manchester City where they lost 1-0. The team, which will be coached by Luis Castro, are still chasing some big targets in the market, including well-known names like Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea.
