Germany made a resounding start in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, dismantling Caribbean side Curaçao 7-1 on Sunday. The much-favored Germans, led by head coach Julian Nagelsmann, dominated the game from start to finish.

Nagelsmann’s side showcased attacking fluency and defensive solidity in what quickly became a one-sided affair. Felix Nmecha opened the scoring early, with goals following from Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz (who netted twice), Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, and Deniz Undav to complete the rout.

The performance drew immediate comparisons to Germany's historic 7-1 demolition of Brazil in the 2014 World Cup semi-final, with fans noting the similar thrashing of a weaker opponent wearing yellow.

Havertz and Undav were particularly impressive in front of goal, while young full-back Brown added a goal and impressed with his overlapping runs. Curacao managed a consolation goal but were largely outclassed, struggling to contain Germany's fluid midfield and clinical finishing.

The emphatic victory sends a strong message to Group stage rivals as Germany look to build momentum toward a deep tournament run. Nagelsmann's side will now turn their attention to the next fixture, buoyed by an impressive team display that highlights their credentials as serious contenders for the title.
