Harry Kane’s time at Bayern Munich may not be as long-term as many expected. Despite signing a deal that runs until 2027, Bundesliga expert Raphael Honigstein has revealed that the German giants are already “braced” for the possibility of Kane leaving earlier than planned.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Honigstein explained that while Kane remains committed to Bayern for now, there has always been a belief in Germany that the England captain might seek a Premier League return before the end of his career.
“People in Germany don't expect Harry Kane to see out his career at Bayern necessarily. There was always a chance, I think Bayern are braced for the, shall we say, possibility that he will leave perhaps slightly earlier than his contract,” he noted.
Munich’s transfer strategy signals long-term planning
Bayern’s summer transfer moves hint strongly at future-proofing their attack. The club explored several striker options, including Benjamin Sesko and Nick Woltemade, before sealing a loan move with an obligation to buy Nicolas Jackson.
Honigstein suggested that while Jackson is excited about playing alongside Kane, the long-term plan is clear. “The fact that they were pushing for somebody who can be both a back-up and an understudy for Kane … suggests that Bayern are aware of the possibility that Kane might go in a year or two, and they need to plan for the future slightly,” he explained.
Jackson, currently adapting to life in Munich, is viewed as a potential successor. However, Kane’s stature means the Senegalese forward will initially operate as support rather than direct competition.
Harry Kane’s focus remains on Bayern and England ambitions
For the moment, Kane remains fully locked in on Bayern’s objectives. Winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles and chasing Champions League glory remain at the forefront of his ambitions. Beyond club football, Harry Kane is also eyeing the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he hopes to captain England to success.
Despite constant speculation, a move back to the Premier League, possibly with Manchester United, is considered a longer-term possibility rather than an immediate concern. The clarity around Kane’s future is expected to emerge after the upcoming season and the World Cup campaign.
What it means for Bayern Munich
While Harry Kane’s future is not set in stone, Bayern’s foresight in recruiting Jackson and monitoring other strikers ensures they won’t be left scrambling if their talisman chooses to depart. For now, fans can expect to see Kane leading the line, but the Bundesliga champions are already preparing for life after their star forward.
