Xabi Alonso is under pressure just months after his tenure at Real Madrid. The Los Blancos manager is surrounded by premature dismissal speculations in case the club loses its upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Manchester City. 

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has backed the former Liverpool midfielder as he talked about what it's like to manage the Spanish giants. The City head coach believes he would have been booted off by Real Madrid if they had endured a similar run to his Manchester City. 

Pep Guardiola thinks Real Madrid would have sacked him over Man City’s nightmare season   

Speaking to the media ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid, Guardiola compared the club’s patience level to City’s form last season. The Spanish manager said: 

“Barcelona and Madrid are the toughest clubs to be a manager, the pressure and environment.” 

Guardiola, who has managed Barcelona in the past, said: 

“If I’d done last season here, I would’ve been sacked.”

Guardiola provided his sympathy for under-fire Alonso and stated he has full faith in the La Liga manager. As the 54-year-old wished Alonso luck, he stated that the former Bayer Leverkusen manager “is capable of doing what is required in that position.”

Guardiola is well aware of Madrid’s injuries and struggles. The injury-plagued side will be without key players while Kylian Mbappe is in huge doubt following injury. The French star did not train with the Spanish giants in their last training ahead of the important clash.
