After getting re-elected as Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has opened up on Lionel Messi once again, this time it's about good reasons, saying the Argentine icon deserves a return.

Laporta's rival at the election, Victor Font, mocked him for letting the icon player go and promised to bring the Argentine back to Barca.

After having election results in favor, Laport slammed Font for taking advantage of taking Lionel Messi's name, saying the Argentine will always be associated with Barca. Messi deserves a tribute and a statue at Camp Nou.

"Leo will be linked to Barcelona in whatever way he wants to be. He deserves a tribute [match] and also a statue. That would be hugely significant. Only Ladislao Kubala and Johan Cruyff have statues at the stadium," said Laporta to TV3.

 

 

Laporta further added that Messi can always come back to Barcelona, to make the club progress in the right path.

"The doors at Barça are always open to him, whenever he wishes, so that he can continue to strengthen and bring greatness to this institution," concluded Laporta.

Currently, Lionel Messi is playing for Inter Miami at Major League Soccer, where he has already won three titles since joining the side in 2023.
