Liverpool suffer three losses to City in a season and end a 53-year FA Cup streak against Guardiola’s side.

After enduring a shameful 4-0 loss against Manchester City in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup, Liverpool registered two unwanted records on Saturday, April 4.

Unwanted records for Liverpool

Erling Haaland was the star of the game as he scored another hat-trick for the Cityzens and Antoine Semenyo joined the party by scoring the fourth goal in the 50th minute.

This was Liverpool’s third loss to Pep Guardiola’s side, having already suffered two defeats against Manchester City in their earlier Premier League meetings.

With the third blow against the Cityzens in the current season, Liverpool became the first reigning side in the last 89 years to face three defeats against Manchester City across all competitions.

Amid all of this, Manchester City brought an end to a 53-year win drought against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Mohamed Salah's key penalty miss vs Liverpool

While interacting with the media after the game, Slot addressed issues in Liverpool's attack as he admitted that chances missed by the Egyptian forward were one of the key reasons behind the loss, but he could not be solely blamed for the setback.

Arne Slot admitted that missing big chances by the players cost them a tough season, where the Reds could not win a single title.

"I wouldn't focus on one player, I would focus on the team and that probably sums up us today but also maybe large part of the season. I think it is the second one he missed and Dominik Szoboszlai also already missed a penalty so it's not only that we miss big chances, this season we have missed a few penalties, said Slot.

"In the first half there was a chance for Mo when we played the fast counter attack. Unfortunately, that didn't go in and you have to score goals if you want to have a chance to win the game," added Slot.

Next challenge for Liverpool

With an elimination in the FA Cup Campaign, Liverpool are only alive in the UEFA Champions League, as they will lock horns with PSG in the first leg of the quarter-final at the Parc des Princes, Paris.
