The comments come after City’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday

Arteta’s squad leads with 70 points from 33 matches

Pep Guardiola has spoken forward to say something about Arsenal after their loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, leaving the Gunners just three points away on the points table.

The Sky Blues boss, however, still believes that Mikel Arteta’s side will win the title despite the bottler's comments on the internet. Guardiola has acknowledged that Arsenal are top of the Premier League table and would be champions if the season ended immediately.

Speaking ahead of his side’s game in hand against Burnley, Guardiola stated:

“Arsenal is top of the league. Right now, in this moment, they will be champions.”

The comments come after City’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, which trimmed the gap at the summit. Arteta’s squad leads with 70 points from 33 matches, while City sits second on 67 points from 32 games with a superior goal difference edge in close contention (+37 for Arsenal, +36 for City). A win at Turf Moor on Wednesday would see City draw level on points and potentially move to the top.

The admission has been widely interpreted as classic Guardiola mind games in a tightening 2025/26 title race. Arsenal have led for much of the campaign but have suffered recent setbacks, while City remain unbeaten in their last nine league outings.

With both sides having several matches remaining, the psychological battle between Guardiola and former assistant Mikel Arteta adds another layer to what promises to be a dramatic run-in.
