Marcus Rashford has finally broken his silence on his journey away from Manchester United, reflecting on his new chapter at Barcelona while subtly hinting at his future plans. The England international, who left Old Trafford on loan earlier this summer, has been thriving in Spain — and his latest comments offer a glimpse into both his mindset and his ambitions moving forward.
A bold move away from Manchester United
Rashford’s departure from Manchester United marked the end of an era and the start of an emotional transition. Once the poster boy of Old Trafford, his form took a downward turn after a brilliant 2022–23 campaign where he netted 30 goals across all competitions. A mix of off-field distractions, poor form, and a strained relationship with then-manager Erik ten Hag ultimately pushed him out of the squad’s core plans.
The England forward’s loan move to Aston Villa initially seemed promising, but inconsistency continued to haunt him. It wasn’t until Barcelona stepped in with a loan deal in July that Marcus Rashford’s career truly reignited. Now, under Hansi Flick’s system at the Catalan club, the 27-year-old seems to have rediscovered his confidence and rhythm.
Marcus Rashford finds joy again in Barcelona
Since joining the Spanish giants, Rashford has not only delivered impressive numbers but also looked genuinely happy on and off the pitch. With five goals and six assists in 12 appearances, he’s become an integral part of Barcelona’s attacking force. His adaptation to La Liga has been seamless, and he’s thriving under the club’s demanding footballing philosophy.
Speaking to Barcelona’s official YouTube channel, Marcus Rashford revealed just how much the move has transformed his outlook:
“I’m really enjoying my time in Spain. The weather is the best part. It’s a very big change. I’m learning every day, I’m really enjoying it. I hope to be here for a long time. I get along really well with Roony (Bardghji), as well as Jules (Kounde) and Frenkie (De Jong). It’s a team where we all blend together. We’re united. The team is fantastic. I just have to be in the right position. I’ll keep trying to do this. We have to keep going like this to be our best. We have a lot more to do this season.”
His comments reflect a renewed sense of motivation — something fans had rarely seen during his final months at United.
A new chapter, but old roots remain
Despite his flourishing spell in Spain, Rashford remains deeply connected to his Manchester United roots. He acknowledged that leaving the club where he spent over two decades was not easy.
“People forget this, but 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and yeah, I’m enjoying everything. I don’t feel there is much change in me, I just feel it’s a new environment and culture and one I looked forward to coming here.”
Marcus Rashford also hinted that his long-discussed move to Barcelona was years in the making:
“It’s not the first time I spoke with Barcelona about potentially coming here, but for whatever reasons it didn’t happen in the past, and now is my opportunity to make it happen. I feel like there’s no time like the present now.”
As his loan spell progresses, talks about making the move permanent have intensified.
