Once again Real Madrid proved that why they are considered the heavyweights in the UEFA Champions League despite going through a mixed form in the current season.
Micah Richards reflects on Real Madrid
After Los Blancos' dominant 5-1 aggregate win over Manchester City in the Round Of 16 tie in the top tier European competition, Micah Richards shared his opinion on the Spanish Giants.
According to Richards, Real Madrid are not the favourites to lift the Champions League title, although he admitted that the Los Blancos prove him wrong every time.
In the post-game analysis, Micah Richards said that Real Madrid are not the hot favourites to lift the title despite securing a place in the last eight of the tournament in a very dominating manner.
He noted that Real Madrid heavily relied on the individual quality of the squad. Meanwhile he picked Barcelona and Bayern Munich as the potential contenders for the championship.
"Madrid winning the whole thing? Right now, I'd say no. The tie vs City, individual brilliance and Bernardo's red won them the tie. Barcelona on their day could beat anyone. Bayern are also there. If I had to bet, I'd say no on Madrid winning because there's better teams," said Richards.
Next challenge for Real Madrid in UCL
Richards further admitted that Real Madrid have big players for the crunch moments which is really needed in a tournament like UCL.
"Madrid have players for the biggest moments. That's what the UCL is. Couple of seasons back they got past Chelsea, City, they weren't playing well but they just got over the line. Every time I rule out Real Madrid, they prove me wrong, every single time," added Richards.
Real Madrid will lock horns with Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. It is going to be a big clash as the German club is going through red hot form, as they secured a 10-2 win on aggregate over Atalanta in the Round of 16 tie.
