It is going to be the end of an era. Manchester City is preparing for the departure of manager Pep Guardiola at the end of the current season, and the legendary coach might appear for his final game very soon.

Sources have told BBC Sport that the 55-year-old Spaniard is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium following Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa, bringing to a close a decade-long reign that has delivered 17 major trophies.

Club staff and squad members are understood to be anticipating his exit, while preparations are underway to mark his iconic tenure, including potential options such as naming the newly expanded North Stand after him.

City are not currently commenting on the reports and maintain that Guardiola has a contract for next season. However, work on the transition has already begun internally. Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked as an assistant under Guardiola at City, has emerged as the front-runner to succeed him.

Guardiola has transformed the Sky Blues into a dominant force in English and European football since arriving in 2016. His achievements include six Premier League titles, a Champions League triumph, and the 2022-23 Treble. The club could still cap his spell with a seventh league title this season after already securing the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
