Pope Leo XIV reveals whether he is Real Madrid or FC Barcelona fan

Pope Leo XIV has declared his personal support for Real Madrid, delighting fans of the Spanish club on the first day of his apostolic visit. Responding to a journalist’s question about the eternal rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona, the first American pope, born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, offered a diplomatic yet telling reply. He said:

“The Pope is for all teams, but Prevost is for Real Madrid.”

The comment, delivered with a smile, drew laughter from those on board and quickly went viral. Real Madrid’s official account promptly shared the video clip. The club has good reason to celebrate: Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to hold a major youth meeting with the diocesan community of Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on June 8.

The playful revelation has sparked widespread excitement among Madridistas, with many online hailing it as a “galactic” signing and joking that even higher powers support the team. As the Pope begins his packed schedule of meetings, Masses, and public events, his affection for Los Blancos has added an extra touch of joy to his Spanish welcome.
