Real Madrid star midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has backed teammate Kylian Mbappe to cruise past Cristiano Ronaldo's records. He thinks that the Frenchman has the potential to outdone the Portuguese star.
Aurelien Tchouameni backs Cristiano Ronaldo
Speaking to the media following the 2-0 win against Valencia, Tchouameni was questioned regarding Mbappe's form and whether the forward can surpass Ronaldo. He was fast enough to respond:
“Can Mbappé surpass Cristiano Ronaldo? Of course I think he can. It’s a pleasure playing with him.”
Rio Ferdinand also spoke about Mbappe surpassing Ronaldo last season, offering him advice on how to do so. The Manchester United icon told the Real Madrid player that he needed to turn up in crunch games regularly to get on the same page as the Portuguese star and Lionel Messi and said:
"Is Kylian Mbappe in that class? No, he's not. That is no disrespect to him, but no one is in that class [like Ronaldo and Messi]. If you've got a great player who is delivering 33 goals in the definitive moments [then teammates won't mind carrying him]. If I know that when the moment comes in the biggest games, I'm looking at you and you can deliver, everyone will go, 'listen, it is what it is [and we don't mind running the extra mile for you]."
"But I don't think they are there with Kylian Mbappe just yet. He's not been there long enough, he's not proved that yet in the big games for them to be able to say that. Time will tell us, I don't think we can say that after one season. To get that grace, you've got to be that guy in the biggest moments."
Cristiano Ronaldo Matched Ronaldo's 59 goals in a calendar year record at Real Madrid last year, and broke his record of goals in the UEFA Champions League group stage earlier this season.
Real Madrid boss supports Kylian Mbappe to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo
Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa has supported Kylian Mbappe to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo. He admitted it would not be easy for the Frenchman, but said that the former PSG star was the only one who could do it. He said:
“Mbappé is the best player in the world, he is showing it every day. It’s not easy to surpass Cristiano but if there’s someone who can do that, that’s Kylian.”
Kylian Mbappe has 49 goal contributions this season for Real Madrid.
