Dayot Upamecano's key role in Bayern Munich
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in the season of 2021, Upamecano has been a key player in defence of Bayern, also scoring six goals and 10 assists in 172 games across all competitions. That consists of a goal in 20 outings across this season, with the lone strike coming in the Bundesliga, where Vincent Kompany's team are eight points clear at the top.
Stalled contract renewal talks with Bayern Munich
There was no progress in contract renewal discussions between Upamecano and Bayern. valued at €60 million, Upamecano could join Real Madrid, who are prepared to accept the player's financial demands, in the summer, as per Foot journalist Santi Aouna via Madrid Zone.
Having scored in the 6-2 Bundesliga home victory against Freiburg last month, Upamecano is expected to appear for the Bavarians in the home league game against Mainz on Sunday, December 14.
Real Madrid's average season so far
Real Madrid have had an above average season under new coach Xabi Alonso - whose first assignment saw him take the team to the semi-finals of the new look 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the United States in the summer.
Los Blancos, though, have hit a rough patch recently, with two wins in their last eight fixtures across all competitions. After a 2-0 La Liga home loss against Celta Vigo last weekend, finishing with 10 men, Alonso's men faced a 2-1 loss against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, dropping them to seventh place in the standings after six games.
Next up, Madrid travel to Alaves in the league on Sunday (December 14) as they aim to identify their problems. Los Blancos are second in the domestic points table, seven points behind leaders Barcelona (43), who have played a match more.
