Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to the hospital after falling unwell at Old Trafford shortly before Manchester United's Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday. The 84-year-old former United manager was transported by ambulance from the stadium as a precaution, with sources stressing it was not an emergency.

The 13-time Premier League winner was first attended to by medics in the Stretford End tunnel after his complaints, according to a report by The Sun. According to the same report, a source informed the outlet that Fergie was sitting up in the ambulance and was “okay.”

No further details on his current condition have been released, although he was reported to have been conscious and undergoing checks.  Additionally, United also refused to comment on the situation. 

The incident occurred as Ferguson prepared to watch the game from the directors' box. The Red Devils went on to defeat Liverpool 3-2, with interim head coach Michael Carrick saying he was "very affected" by the news and wishing his former boss all the best, hoping the result would provide a boost.

Ferguson managed Manchester United for 27 years, winning 38 trophies and establishing himself as one of football's greatest managers. He has continued to attend matches at Old Trafford since retiring in 2013.
