England's non-league football club Wrexham have come a long way since they were taken over by Hollywood A-list actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny in 2020. They missed out on automatic promotion to League Three by a whisker during the 2021- 22 season and also reached the final of the FA Trophy in a closely-fought match at the famed Wembley Stadium.

This season, the side are edging closer to promotion back into the England Football League and are currently at the top of the points table, three points ahead of Notts County with six matchweeks to go. If they finish at the top of the table then they will automatically get promoted to League Three for the first time in over 15 overs.

Hence, the team will be excited to take on one of the world's biggest clubs Manchester United when the two sides face off at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego in July for a pre-season friendly. The club announced the same with a hilarious video involving the movie star Reynolds, TV star McElhenny and Sir Alex Ferguson.

In the video, the US-based duo video-call the 13-time Premier League-winning manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Their comic video shows the duo video-calling Sir Alex but receiving no response from the legend except for the deadly stare that made the Scottish one of the most intimidating managers in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, a youth-focused team with the club's Academy prospects will take on Wrexham AFC on Tuesday, July 25, as part of their week-long training camp in San Diego.

“This will be the first time the team has visited San Diego, and we are looking forward to playing in front of our passionate US fans at Snapdragon Stadium. Pre-season tours are always a great occasion to give opportunities for our most promising young Academy players to gain valuable experience in the first-team environment, and this match against Wrexham AFC is a great example of that," said John Murtough, Manchester United Football Director.

Wrexham AFC manager Phil Parkinson said, "The tour will be an excellent opportunity for us to prepare for the 2023/24 season, and the match against Manchester United will be a competitive fixture and a good test for us as we look ahead to the new campaign."
