Violence is no stranger to the sport of football as was demonstrated in a game between Altay v Goztepe. The former team's goalkeeper was attacked viciously by a supporter of the home team in the city of Izmir. The fan in the clip can be seen rushing headlong towards the Altay goalkeeper Ozan Evrim Ozenc who was the victim of an assault on him.

The angry fan attacked the unassuming goalkeeper from behind with a corner flag unleashing a series of aggressive blows and leaving the goalkeeper shell-shocked before he collapsed and lost consciousness. As a result, the game had to be called off attracting global attraction for all the wrong reasons.

Soon it led to the ambulance being driven on the pitch and the Altay goalie was hospitalized with blood leaking from the back of his head where he was struck twice with full force. The 29-year-old was whacked twice on his head leading the flag to splinter into two before he was wrestled down to the ground. After the attack, Altay goalkeeper Ozan Evrim Özenç suffered a haemorrhage and was hospitalized but is conscious at this time. The attacker for today's incident was taken into custody by the stadium police.

Altay goalkeeper Ozan Evrim Özenç, who was attacked with a corner flag by a fan, was found to have a 4 cm opening in his head.
The game was crammed with violent scenes with which football had nothing to do given the earlier stoppage for fireworks being thrown into the home section by away fans, coupled with the assault on a player, the referee then decided to call the match off as a result of the ugly scenes.
