Enzo Fernandez was recently dropped from the squad for Chelsea’s next two matches as he “crossed a line”, as per manager Liam Rosenior, with public comments linking him to a move to Real Madrid. Following this, the Argentine will miss the FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the English Premier League clash against Manchester City on April 12.
Amid the situation, a question has arisen whether he will be stripped of the vice captaincy honor. Chelsea head coach Rosenior has confirmed that the midfielder will remain the club's vice-captain and part of the leadership group, despite being dropped for the next two matches over controversial comments about his future.
Rosenior backs Enzo Fernande for vice captain despite banning him for two matches over recent comments
The Blues boss said:
“Enzo is still part of the leadership group”.
Rosenior added:
“We'll see after Man City game. For me, I won't be stripping him of anything because he doesn't deserve that”.
The Premier League side boss further revealed that the Argentine international will continue to train with the first team. The sanction follows comments Fernandez made during the international break, including expressing a preference for living in Madrid and uncertainty about his long-term stay at Stamford Bridge amid links to Real Madrid.
Rosenior previously described the comments as crossing "a line" in terms of club culture, leading to Fernández's exclusion from the FA Cup tie against Port Vale and the Premier League clash with Manchester City.
