Spanish midfielder Rodri has declared that his previous stint with Atlético Madrid would not prevent him from playing for Real Madrid. The Manchester City star has also stated that no player should turn down an opportunity to join one of the world's biggest clubs.
Man City’s Rodri open to joining Real Madrid despite Atletico Madrid past
In an interview with Onda Cero, the Premier League player finally broke his silence on the ongoing rumors about him joining the Spanish giants. The 29-year-old stated:
“The fact that I played for Atlético Madrid does NOT stop me from playing for Real Madrid”.
The Spaniard added:
“You CANNOT refuse the best clubs in the world.”
Rodri also revealed that he would like to return to Spain and La Liga. While he has one year left in his contract, the Sky Blues player revealed:
“Real Madrid is NOT a closed door for me.”
While Pep Guardiola’s side are set for contract talks with him ahead of the FIFA World Cu[p 2026, Rodri has fuelled the Real Madrid speculations with the blunt admission. The midfielder has returned to Spain duty during the final international break ahead of the footballing major and is under contract with his club side through June 30, 2027.
