Liverpool scripted a crucial 2-0 away victory against Inter Milan in the first leg of the round-of-16 fixture in the Champions League. Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino scored the first goal of the match in 75th minute and later Liverpool’s Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah scored the second goal of the night to earn a two-goal cushion for his side.
Unbeaten Liverpool
With this victory, Liverpool extended their longest ever winning run in the Champions League. The English giants have won all their seven matches in the ongoing champions league.
On the other hand, Inter Milan might feel a bit unlucky with the results after dominating the first half.
The Italian side enjoyed a ball possession of 46 per cent in the game and had fired 9 shots in total throughout the match. But lack of accuracy turned out to be a big factor as they failed to hit a single shot on target.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp looked seemingly delighted after the match.
"We had to fight. We started really well, played around their formation in the beginning, but then the direct play with the switches to the wing-backs we didn't defend too well,” he was quoted while talking to BT Sport.
"Too often our full-backs were alone in the one-on-one situation, it doesn't work properly like that. In a game like this you have to keep the ball longer and that's what didn't happen long enough. But you cannot come here and hope that you have a brilliant day and that's the only chance to get a result.
"We had not a brilliant day but a good enough day to be a deserved win. We scored two wonderful goals, yes they had their moments [and] counter-attacks, but mainly counter-attacks when we lost the ball in the wrong spaces,” Klopp added.
Bayern score late equaliser
On the other hand, German champions Bayern Munich had a tough night in the Champions League after they scored a late equaliser to register a draw against Salzburg.
Earlier, the hosts earned an early lead in the 21st minute of the game after their Austrian striker Adamu scored the first goal of the match. Later, French winger Kingsley Coman scored a 90th minute equaliser for Bayern Munich to avoid a painful defeat.
