Lewis Hamilton’s journey in Formula 1 is nothing short of legendary. With seven World Championship titles, 105 race victories, 104 pole positions, and 202 podium finishes, his achievements are unparalleled. However, the 40-year-old Brit hasn’t had the best time on the track in recent years, finishing third in the 2023 World Championships and enduring a disappointing seventh-place finish last season with Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.
After parting ways with Mercedes, Hamilton has joined Scuderia Ferrari for the 2025 season, aiming to surpass Michael Schumacher’s record of seven titles. As part of his new chapter, Hamilton recently took his first official test with Ferrari at Fiorano, leaving fans buzzing with excitement.
Lewis Hamilton’s first drive in the red beast
Hamilton's first test at Ferrari's Fiorano track was a spectacle for fans and media alike. Driving the SF-23 car under Formula 1’s “Testing of Previous Cars” regulations, he completed 30 laps, covering 89 kilometers. The test began on a damp track, requiring demonstration wet tyres for his initial runs. With the track gradually drying, Hamilton transitioned to hard slick tyres, testing Ferrari's ground-effect systems and conducting practice starts. Though the conditions were challenging, Hamilton made the most of his time, waving to the gathered Tifosi and showcasing his trademark charisma.
The test ended just before lunch as rain returned to Maranello. Despite the limited running time, Hamilton took the opportunity to greet fans, acknowledging their passionate support. This moment marked not only the beginning of Hamilton’s journey with Ferrari but also a glimpse of the synergy between the British champion and the iconic Italian team.
Hamilton Reflects on His Fiorano Debut
Reflecting on his test, Lewis Hamilton said,
"I’ve been lucky enough to have many firsts in my career... but driving a Scuderia Ferrari HP car for the first time this morning was one of the best feelings of my life. When I started the car up and drove through that garage door, I had the biggest smile on my face. It reminded me of the very first time I tested a Formula 1 car, it was such an exciting and special moment."
He further added, "I already knew from the outside how passionate the Ferrari family is... But to now witness it firsthand as a Ferrari driver has been awe-inspiring. That passion runs through their veins and you can’t help but be energised by it. I’m so grateful for the love I have felt from everyone in Maranello this week, we have a lot of work to do but I can’t wait to get started."
Hamilton's words reflect his enthusiasm and determination, hinting at the thrilling season ahead as he embarks on his quest for an eighth World Championship title with Ferrari.
