McLaren leads in the Constructor Standings while Oscar Piastri leads the Championship Standings.

Oscar Piastri stormed to victory at the Miami Grand Prix, taking the chequered flag ahead of teammate Lando Norris, who himself crossed the line over 35 seconds clear of third place. For Piastri, this was more than just another win—it was personal, and he made it clear who deserved credit for the remarkable success.

After Saturday’s sprint race slipped from his grasp due to a late safety car, Sunday offered a complete turnaround for the young Australian.

“The Race I Really Wanted to Win”

Reflecting on the high-stakes weekend, Piastri acknowledged how much this specific race meant to him after a difficult qualifying session.

“I won the race that I really wanted to do. Yesterday was a tricky day. Obviously the sprint was what it was, but qualifying was probably one of my trickiest sessions for the year and to come away with a win still on Sunday is an impressive result,” he said during the post-race grid interviews.

 Navigating Chaos at Turn 1

The start of the Grand Prix wasn’t without drama, with multiple cars jostling for position early on.

“Obviously there was a bit of argy-bargy at Turn 1, which held me up a little bit. And then, yeah, I was aware enough to avoid Max coming through in Turn 1,” Piastri explained. “From that point onwards, I knew that I had a good pace advantage and clearly the car was unbelievable today.”

Once he found clean air, Piastri never looked back.

Building the Lead, Holding the Nerve

Piastri said the early part of the race was key to his dominant performance, especially given the difficulties he faced later in the run.

“I think the first stint was really strong and then the hard stint I was honestly struggling a little bit. So it was a good thing that I built that gap in the first stint,” he noted.

That early advantage proved crucial as Lando Norris started closing in after passing Max Verstappen on Lap 18. Still, Piastri managed the situation with composure.

“Towards the end I started to get things a bit more back under control. But there's still definitely some things to work on from this afternoon. So I'm very happy with the win, very happy with the points. But I've constantly got to keep learning.”

 From Backmarkers to Front-Runners

Piastri was quick to shift the spotlight to McLaren’s transformation, reminding everyone just how far the team has come.

“It's just incredible the hard work that's gone in \[to the car]. I remember two years ago here in Miami we were genuinely the slowest team. I think we got lapped twice.”

“And to now have won the Grand Prix by over 35 seconds to third is an unbelievable result and the hard work of every single person, firstly the people here at the track, but everyone at the factory as well.”

Oscar Piastri’s Miami win not only underscored his growing reputation as a serious contender but also highlighted McLaren’s return to the front of the grid. And while the win is sweet, the Australian remains focused on learning and improving—knowing full well that consistency is what separates the greats from the rest.
