On Day 9, no Indian athlete added to the medals tally.

India are ranked 57th on medal tally.

Lakshya Sen fought valiantly against Denmark's veteran shuttler Viktor Axelsen but could not make it to the final of the badminton men's singles. The 22-year-old on his Olympic debut is still in contention for a bronze medal. In another medal-less day for India, Harmanpreet Singh-led men's hockey team turned out to be the standout as they beat Great Britain to reach the semifinal. While there are medal hopes in badminton and hockey, India’s medal tally remains unchanged.

Sen put up a sensational fight against Axelsen but lost to him 20-22, 14-21. He will go up against Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal match on August 5.

Hockey

Despite being reduce to 10 players after Amit Rohidas was shown the red card, India beat Great Britain 4-2 in penalty shootout as goalkeeper PR Sreejesh put on an exceptional display. India will face Germany on August 6. In Tokyo Olympics, they beat Germany to win the historic bronze medal.
