Lakshya Sen fought valiantly against Denmark's veteran shuttler Viktor Axelsen but could not make it to the final of the badminton men's singles. The 22-year-old on his Olympic debut is still in contention for a bronze medal. In another medal-less day for India, Harmanpreet Singh-led men's hockey team turned out to be the standout as they beat Great Britain to reach the semifinal. While there are medal hopes in badminton and hockey, India’s medal tally remains unchanged.
Badminton
Sen put up a sensational fight against Axelsen but lost to him 20-22, 14-21. He will go up against Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal match on August 5.
Hockey
Despite being reduce to 10 players after Amit Rohidas was shown the red card, India beat Great Britain 4-2 in penalty shootout as goalkeeper PR Sreejesh put on an exceptional display. India will face Germany on August 6. In Tokyo Olympics, they beat Germany to win the historic bronze medal.
Boxing
The bronze medallist of Tokyo Olympics, Lovlina Borgohain lost to China's Li Qian in the quarterfinal of 75 kg women's event. Lovlina lost to the world no.1 on a split verdict of 1-4.
Shooting
In the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men's qualification, Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwalla finished ninth and 13th respectively. Sidhu had a score of 583-26x whereas Bhanwalla finishes with 582-22x.
In the women's Skeet qualification, Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon finished 14th and 23rd respectively. Maheshwari had a score of 118 whereas Raiza had five fewer points.
Athletics
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Parul Chaudhary finished eighth with a timing of 9:23.39. In men's long jump Jeswin Aldrin recorded a distance of 7.61m and finished 13th in his heat.
Sailing
There was no good news in sailing either. At the end of race 8, Vishnu Saravanan is in the 18th place in the men's dinghy event. There are still two more races to go but only a miracle can see him rise to anywhere close to medal contention. Meanwhile women's dinghy event, Nethra Kumanan is in 25th position.
Golf
In the men's individual round 4, golfers Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar are at 40th and 45th position respectively.
