India have clinched 2 medals in Paris Olympics 2024 so far.

The 33rd edition of the Olympics started from July 26 which is hosted by Paris with a unique opening ceremony where contingents float down on the Seine, with players waving their country's flag high a day before. The 117-member Indian contingent donned the dress designed by celebrated fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani. Sharath Kamal and PV Sindhu were the flagbearers for India in the opening ceremony. As soon as the fans witnessed the dress, Tarun was subjected to constant criticism and faced immense trolling on social media.

“Well, that was a little more rushed, because dealing with the government means there are committees, then there was election and there was a new sports minister. Although the IOC were very sweet, PT Usha was amazing. But then the athletes were all over India, and so we couldn't get measurements. There was no fitting. So, it was a bit rushed. I just designed it to look like a simple clean look. I wanted the athletes to match the tricolor. Every country practically marches behind their flag. And so, and I wanted to be simple, easy and cool. It's not a couture show, It's not a wedding, let's talk about medals and ensure our teams are comfortable.” said Tarun.

Tarun also opened up about the criticism he has been facing for his iconic design and the ways he overcomes criticism. He acknowledged how it completely goes wrong sometimes and talked about the value of feedback.

‘You know, the older you get, the more free you get. Right? So you do it for your own sake. You do it for your love of it. I'm very democratic . So when I sit with my design assistants and people who are fitting, we take feedback. But if it looks really beautiful to me, I of course have some hints and some misses. But generally, I think, generally it's you, you get a skill after 10000 hours of doing something, and I think that's really what's happening. Now if it's criticized, it's criticized. ?It's not changing my life. I'm gonna roll out of bed and go do my next thing. Everything's not going to be a 100%. It's okay. That's life. When you get older, you get a little wiser, so you don't let these things fuss you”.

Recently, Tarun Tahiliani made headlines as he dressed actor-model Kim Kardashian for iconic Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant's wedding. “Fashion has become very constricting for a lot of people. You know, why should we take a western person's idea of what a body is because our bodies are different, our shapes are different, and our culture is different? It takes Kim to make people understand that curvaceousness can be beautiful. So, I mean, it was all very rushed, but they were very professional,” said Tarun of his design.

Tarun has been a celebrated fashion designer in India. Apart from Kim, Tarun also dressed many celebrities, including Ranveer Singh, Khushi Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Isha Ambani, Radhika Merchant, and others, for the Ambani wedding.
