Mirabai’s Journey

Despite coming into the Paris Games on the back of an injury, Mirabai did well to keep herself in the game as a medal contender. The 30-year-old started the snatch round by lifting 85 kg in her first attempt. However, her second attempt in 88 kg proved unsuccessful. She had initially set a target of 86 kg in her second attempt but after a few minutes, she changed it to 88 kg.
In clean and jerk, Chanu failed to lift 111 kg after lifting more weight than the rest of the field. However, she went for the same lift immediately afterward and was successful a second time, tying for second place with Hou Zihui. Later Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao won bronze with a total of 200, just one more than Chanu giving India another heartbreak.

China's Hou Zhihui won gold with a combined total of 206kg, Romania's Mihaela Valentina Cambei took silver with 205kg, and Thailand's Surodchana Khambao claimed bronze with 200kg.
