Indian Olympics debutant Nishant Dev has stormed into the quarterfinal of the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. He defeated Jose Gabriel Rodriguez Tenorio by 3-2 in men's 71 kg boxing to register his opening match of the marquee event happening in Paris. He is just a win away from the medal round of the multinational event.

Nishant Dev, entering the ring for the first time in the Paris Olympics, continued to attack Jose Gabriel Rodriguez Tenorio of Ecuador and rained strong punches. After winning the first round 4-1, he won the second round as well 4-1. But when the final score came after the third round, Nishant Dev won the match 3-2 and registered a win in the first match of the Olympics.

How did Nishant make it to the Paris Olympics

 

Talking about Nishant Dev, he became the national champion in the year 2021 and the year 2022. After this, he won the bronze medal in lightweight in the year 2023 World Championship. While he qualified for the Paris Olympic Games 2024 through the second world qualifying tournament. Apart from this, he was ranked fifth in the 2023 Asian Games. Now Nishant Dev has become the first boxer in the men's category to reach the quarter-finals by winning the round of 16 for India.

Earlier, Amit Panghal could not face the Zambian boxer in the first round of the 51 kg category and had to face a crushing defeat of 1-4. With this, Amit Panghal's journey, who had come with the hope of winning a medal, ended in the second consecutive Olympic Games.
